Organization

Sheltering Tree, Inc. was formed in 2006 as a Christian non-profit organization by parents and siblings of special needs persons. Through Sheltering Tree, Inc. these family members began their mission to develop a premiere, safe, caring, and affordable long-term housing community, properly managed by loving live-in caregivers for young adults with mild to moderate developmental dissabilities.

Motivation

In Nebraska there are 1,800 persons with developmental dissabilities on a waiting list to get services to live as independently as possible. Since 2006 the only way housing is available is at the parents' death or incapacity.

As many as 65% of the population with developmental dissabilities never find meaningful employment here.

What a burden of families not knowing what will happen to their cherished adult child.

Sheltering Tree, Inc. will support the individuals' religious beliefs and spiritual needs of each resident. A majority of the Board of Trustees will be composed of Orthodox Christians to continuosly uphold the Christian foundation of Sheltering Tree, Inc.

In this, we and future families like ours can pass from this Earth with piece of mind and heart.
